This trip tours around Yucatan, Chiapas, Campeche and Quintana Roo in a two week itinerary taking in the best birding as well as numerous Mayan sites.
The Mayan sites are often excellent for birding, as they have protected forests and are often in areas which are otherwise inaccessible. We will visit the world-famous Chichén-Itzá, as well as Uxmal, Palenque, Yaxchilán and Calakmul.
We will also be able to visit the excellent coastal wildlife reserves of Sian Ka'an and Rio Lagartos, which offer a range of coastal lagoon, mangrove and coastal forest species.
We will be concentrating on many endemic and near-endemic species in the area, including Ocellated Turkey, Black-throated Bobwhite, Yellow-lored Amazon, Yucatan Poorwill, Yucatan Nightjar, Yucatan Woodpecker, Mexican Sheartail, Yucatan Flycatcher, Yucatan Jay, Yucatan Wren, Yucatan Gnatcatcher, Black Catbird, Rose-throated Tanager and Orange Oriole.
In addition, there are many species of Hummingbirds, Toucans, Trogons, Parrots and a host of passerines, including many North American winter visitors.
