Sarus Travel was formed in 1996 by Nigel Moorhouse, trading under Sarus Bird Tours. The aim was to provide excellent-value birding trips worldwide, with quality leaders.
Moving away from the standard scheduled tours, Sarus Bird Tours now offer Anytime Tours, which are designed for small groups of two or more people, using expert local guides. This ethical approach ensures that the local economy benefits in our destinations.
In addition, our expertise in Japan led to the forming of Japanbirding.com, offering scheduled tours, DIY trips and ground services for other birding companies.
Our Anytime Tours are designed to be taken at a time of your own choosing, and are designed around just 2 people sharing. They use locally-based expert guides, which means the costs are very competitive, and are often cheaper than similar group tours. The tours on the site are only examples, and can easily be tailored to meet your wishes.
DIY tours are currently focused on Japan. These are self-drive and self-guided trips, where we put together the tour and whatever elements you wish us to provide. They come with specialist birding and site location information to make it easy to get around in this unique country.
These tours have fixed departure dates, and use either local guides or our own guides. We offer these tours mainly to Japan, but we also collaborate with various publications such as Birdguides and Birdwatch Magazine to provide tours to other destinations where we have expertise.
